Poor Mr Warren
I was shocked today to read that a teacher was stabbed at my old school Avondale College.
I was even more shocked to find out that the teacher was Mr Warren – my Japanese teacher for most of the four years that I studied Japanese.
Luckily the injuries were not life threatening and Mr (David) Warren was sent home from hospital last night.
Stuff.co.nz reports
[...]students appeared on television last night suggesting Mr Warren was tough on some students.
Well all teachers are tough on students at some time.
I thought Mr Warren was an excellent teacher. The only time he raised his voice at me was when I ignored one of his questions. He has a glass eye you see, and in my defence, one of them was looking in another direction so I didn’t respond because I thought he was talking to someone else! He might have been tough sometimes, but always fair.
I don’t recall these sorts of incidents occurring during my years at Avondale College. It makes me wonder how much worse things may get in New Zealand schools today and I worry about how this affects tomorrow’s teachers. The world needs good teachers!
