If you need to make a quick but effective Star Wars cake, try something like this Chewbacca cake.
It’s a rectangle cake, with the top corners rounded off. I covered it with a chocolate butter cream (I used the Crabapple Bakery’s chocolate fudge frosting). It’s a simple outwards motion with a cake spatula or butter knife for his fur.
Then it’s a few fondant details – the eyes, nose, mouth, and Chewie’s belt is some simple rectangles and rolled out straps.
All decorated in less than 30 minutes. More time for margaritas!
Chocolate fudge frosting
Here’s the chocolate fudge buttercream from the Crabapple Bakery Cupcake Cookbook.
I’ve halved the recipe as that’s all you need:
- 4 cups icing sugar
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 100g softened butter
- 90 ml milk
- 1/2 Tbsp vanilla extract.
Sift icing sugar and cocoa into a bowl.
In a separate bowl, cream the butter for 1-2 minutes. Add the milk, vanilla extract and half of the icing sugar mixture, and beat for at least 3 minutes or until the mixture is light and fluffy. Add the remaining icing sugar and beat for a further 3 minutes or until the mixture is light and fluffy and of spreadable consistency. Add extra milk if the mixture is too dry or extra icing sugar if the mixture is too wet.
