You don’t need special tools or special skills to open a young drinking coconut – just a knife and a minute or so.
- Put the coconut on its side. Cut slices off the wide end until you see the ‘eyes’ – they look like bowling ball holes. You are only looking for the ‘soft’ eye, which looks translucent in colour and more obvious than the others.
- On the other end, cut the pointy tip off. This is now the bottom.
- Put the coconut on its new bottom. With the end of the knife, carefully pick out the soft eye you’ve found – the knife should go into it easily.
- Once you have a hole big enough, put a straw in and enjoy the coconut water.
