Baby Update

Baby Update at 27 Weeks

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

The second trimester honeymoon period seems to be over.

Carpal tunnel is affecting both my hands now and I may need a hand brace for each, particularly for sleeping.

I’m getting tired more again. Not sure if it’s because of what’s happening inside, or just because I can’t get  a good night’s sleep with the hands and not being able to get comfortable. Bit of both I think.

I seem to get a blood nose every time I sneeze. And sneezing is a pain in itself too!

Ooh, on Friday I went and saw the play Four Flat Whites in Italy, which was two and a half hours long. By the end of it my feet were so swollen they felt tight inside my shoes and it hurt to walk. More of that to look forward to.

The baby is about a third of its birth weight now. That means the baby will triple in weight in the last trimester – yikes! My tummy is going to be ginormous!

On the upside, the baby is moving lots so that’s a good sign that she’s healthy and doing what babies should be doing.

And I don’t look like a total wreck. I’m quite pleased about the “pregnancy glow” that people have been telling me I have. Let’s try and hold on to that for as long as possible.

I also had my glucose challenge test today. They give you a speical fizzy lemonade and you come back an hour later to take the blood test. I went and got a hair cut, and was three minutes late back (slow junior blow drying is my excuse). The guy was not impressed! But at least my hair is now arm pit long instead of elbow long, and one less thing to worry about for a few months.

Baby Update at 26 Weeks

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

I have tipped the scales this week – now 60.7kgs, which is the first time I’ve ever been in the 60s range. To date I’ve gained about 8 kilos.

At least my weight gain is right on track. In the last month I’ve put on 1.4kg, which aligns with the expected 1 to 1.5kgs.

My fingers feel fat too. The carpal tunnel syndrome is only getting worse but only so slightly. I haven’t been able to wear my wedding ring so now I feel like a pregnant unmarried teen, because I look like one!

So I’ve been pigging out on chocolate and chocolate things. Have you ever tried Arnotts Buttersnap biscuits? I like Anzac biscuits and I like chocolate, so I love Arnotts Buttersnaps because it’s basically an Anzac biscuit with chocolate on one side.

I’m writing this post at work, in my lunch time of course, while eating white chocolate. Our broadband at home is painfully slow at the moment and I have to wait until the new billing month starts on the 29th before we get back to normal speed. I apologise for the lack of photos recently, but that’s why.

Anyway, I’ve had a few crampy feelings this week due to my expanding belly. Moving around is getting more difficult because it hurts to do it too fast and I’m constantly avoiding straining my tummy muscles (because that hurts). You should watch me put on shoes, like the hubby does, and just laugh instead of helping. He’s so going to be my personal slave soon… and then we’ll see who’s laughing!

Baby Update at 25 Weeks

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Everything’s swelling – tummy, boobs, hands and feet.

And it’s all going to get worse :(

I’ve got a couple small stretch marks on my boobs now and the belly button is still shrinking. Had a few headaches this week. Sleep is getting harder because of a) my carpal tunnel syndrome, and b) trying to get comfortable with the belly.

My appetite hasn’t changed, but my stomach space has shrunken.

We went to Satay India and had a delicious banquet meal but I could only nibble. I was hoping to take some leftovers home, but noone noticed the tiny note they had somewhere on the menu about not being able to take home banquet leftovers. So I was denied, and it felt so wasteful. What else would they do with the leftovers if you can’t take them home? I wish I could’ve eaten my usual amount! Oh, and another thing – they didn’t even serve the poppadoms that was supposed to be part of the banquet. Noone noticed that either. I don’t think we were paying much attention to details that night!

The sweet tooth is still there. I just can’t resist chocolate, bikkies, pastries and so on. It doesn’t help that the last week has seen a few morning teas at work!

Only 14 weeks to go!! And only 9 weeks of work :D

Baby Update at 24 Weeks

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

At the end of this 24th week, I can now say I have a pregnancy waddle. Clomping with your legs slightly apart just feels more comfortable. So what if I look constipated (if my belly isn’t obvious enough that I’m pregnant).

Well, after three sessions of acupuncture, my carpal tunnel syndrome has not gotten any better. My doctor is not surprised – he thinks acupuncture is pointless and in this case it was. I’ll be buying a hand brace some time this week, and hopefully it’ll help me get some quality sleep at night. I’m not sure if it’ll help me with doing things like writing, brushing teeth or using a knife and fork though. Those things are currently quite painful.

I now feel bloated and tight most of the time, and noticing the extra weight when I walk and sleep. Don’t expect me to walk from The Terrace to Courtenay place in under half an hour anymore.

Baby is kicking much more as well, but thankfully she seems to sleep at night so doesn’t wake me up.

And my word, I have developed a major sweet tooth! I better be careful to not over do it though. I don’t want any more conditions.

My belly button has also started on its descent/ascent into outie-ness. Maybe I’ll be lucky and it’ll stay as an innie… we’ll have to wait and see.
