Back to virtual reality
After five days, our telco finally fixed the problem with our phone and Internet, hurray.
Apparently the bad weather had caused some major problems with our area and our phone line died on Saturday; but that wasn’t so bad because we still had Internet. Then on Monday a service guy did some tinkering outside, and for some reason we lost Internet too (hmmmmm).
What’s worse than no Internet? Dealing with the call centre – on hold… Home Calling: “You have no dial tone, and now no Internet? I’ll pass you to Broadband” on hold… Broadband: “You have no dial tone at all? I’ll pass you to Home Calling”… We were told it was going to be fixed in a day, but that ETA changed several times, and then we were supposed to be contacted as soon as things were back online but that didn’t happen either *sigh*.
The Internet is definitely one of those things you take for granted. Luckily (or unluckily as it may be) I have a thriving baby who keeps me busy for all but about four hours a day, so I wasn’t suffering as much withdrawal as I might have been. I don’t seem to have the time to be bored these days!
But I’m still glad I can be my online self again.
Stop right there
I am going to stop breastfeeding.
It might sound selfish but I need to feel like myself again and not like a milk truck all the time.
It’s depressing enough that Abby won’t breastfeed straight from the boob, so to have to spend valuable ‘free’ time expressing into a bottle, on top of the time it takes to feed her the bottle, it’s more than I’d like to deal with for much longer.
Question is – how do I stop?
I’ve been reading online and have tried to skip a feed (or in my case, an expression) so that I only expressed three times a day. I also reduced the time I spent expressing by limiting to 10 minutes each side (but I know I have to reduce this further).
This was fine for the first day but because the last expression of the night still left milk in me, I was so swollen and sore by 4am that I had to wake up just to express. Then, the next day I found myself back to expressing four times a day because I was carrying around extra milk from not emptying them properly each time.
I am guessing that I have to put up with the swelling and pain for a while before my body starts reducing the milk supply.
To those mothers who have stopped breastfeeding – tell me your story and give me some advice!
Yay for Green Day
Apart from the ridiculously loud volume level, which is the norm for all concerts, the Green Day concert was everything I hoped it would be.
I missed seeing them back in 1996 but 13 years and a baby later I finally got to experience them live and they were awesome! It was great to hear songs from an array of albums, including some short covers of random songs. They are an entertaining bunch.
Best line of the night: “Get out of here Joseph. You and your biblical name. Tell Jesus I said Hi.” Billie Joe said that to a sweet kid from the audience that volunteered to be his ’sacrifice’ for one of the songs. I love Billie Joe’s sense of humour.
Unfortunately we didn’t have a decent camera with us so we only got some terrible blurry ones on our cellphones.
It was the first time I’d been to Auckland’s Vector arena. Pretty nice venue but what a rip! Parking was $20. Then they confiscated my water bottle and snacks (I still eat like a pregnant lady), and proceeded to charge me $4.70 for a replacement 300ml bottle of water. Not only that, they wouldn’t allow me to keep the plastic bottle and I had to have it in a paper cup – the most expensive cup of water ever! Also, it’s hard to ‘put your hands up in the air’ with a cup of water in one.
It was a good night out though. We left Abby with my parents for what turned out to be a good six hours. I missed out on my evening nap so was absolutely exhausted by her 2am feed. Lucky the hubby was there to tag team with.
Certainly a night to remember for me. Yay for Green Day.
