Sushi Cravings

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

One day without Midland Sushi and I was already having withdrawals. So for lunch today I made some of my own. Yum yum!

Home made sushi

Left to right: Crab nigiri, smoked chicken sushi, crab triangle with bonito flakes, and avocado nigiri

As usual I made way too much so we also had leftovers for dinner, and there will be some triangles for work tomorrow too :D

Stuff I Luff

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008
  • Buses arriving just after you get to the bus stop – hurray!
  • The impending summer – I’m sure it’s just around the corner, behind those clouds and following the winds…
  • Cocktails on a school night especially the two for one deals
  • Getting tipsy and having an hilarious time with your friends
  • Midland Sushi aka “Crack Sushi” because you always want more, oh yeah :D And now that there’s one in Chews Lane, we have two choices of places to go.
  • Polka-dots on clothes, underwear and now kitchenware!
  • Bassett’s Licorice Allsorts – they may be the best allsorts ever. And to think we only saw them at Heathrow on the way out of the UK. If anyone wants to send me some as a gift I promise to give them a good home.

Sushi Burrito

Monday, November 24th, 2008

So it’s a Sunday afternoon and you feel like sushi. You have all the ingredients but can’t be bothered making sushi rice when you only want enough for one. Well, if you also have tortillas lying around then you can make a sushi burrito!

Burrito with sushi fillings

Ready to be wrapped

  1. Spread some wasabi down the tortilla.
  2. Place a handful of healthy salad greens on your tortilla, leaving a space at the bottom for folding later.
  3. Pile on the the other fillings – surimi, chicken, cucumber, avocado etc.
  4. Top with preserved ginger slices.
  5. Tear some nori pieces on to filling.
  6. Drizzle with Japanese mayonnaise (we get Kewpie) and Japanese soya sauce (which is sweeter than Chinese).
  7. Fold the bottom of the tortilla up, and then fold over the right and left sides to form your burrito.

What a fantastical idea for a light meal.
